CRUNCH TIME – THE NEXT STEP

Most of you know me (Brian) as a pretty straight shooter.  I usually “tell it like it is”.  Well, truth is, we are now in crunch time!  As you read this, I am in Zambia with my dad putting the roof on, plumbing the house, and all the miscellaneous things that need to get done so our house is “livable” for our family to move in at the end of October.

We are at 92% of our support.    To this point, we have not felt led by God to do the “usual” missionary support raising.  (It seems God hasn’t had us do much that is usual!  We are a family of 9, without formal missions training, going into the field in Africa-can’t get much more untraditional!)  We haven’t done a lot of individual calling or meetings.  What we have done is pray.  And for the last year, as you have been reading and traveling along with us on this journey to Zambia, we have asked you to pray about partnering with us.  We have continued to believe what E.M. Bounds said, “He who calls will most certainly provide the means for supporting those whom He calls and sends forth.”

E.M. Bounds also said: “All our plans and devices drive to the one end of raising money, not to quicken faith and promote prayer.  The common idea among Church leaders is that if we get the money, prayer will come as a matter of course.  The very reverse is the truth.  If we get the Church at the business of praying, and thus secure the spirit of missions, money will more than likely come as a matter of course.”  We have felt that part of our calling has been to bring the Church (as a whole) to prayer.  We of course desire prayer for ourselves, but we desire more for you to grow in a personal prayer relationship with God- for yourself, your family, your church, missions at home and around the world.  We also have wanted to and hope you have been encouraged in your own faith walk as you have shared in our journey.   Together we have seen God doing some pretty miraculous things and we have shared the joys, the pain, the trials and triumphs of this crazy ride!  Those of you who read our online journal especially have been on an emotional roller coaster with us.  We believe God has been faithful as we have been faithful to Him.  To be where we are financially after only 10 months of support raising is a confirmation to us.

Now as we near the end of this stage and move on to the next, we feel that it is time to very directly ask you if you would join our prayer and support teams.  We don’t have far to go to be at full support and have our out-going costs met.  We are asking you to consider supporting us monthly or yearly at whatever amount God is leading.  Some of you gave special gifts last year and maybe could do that again this year, or you may now feel led to give monthly.  Some of you may not have given yet at all and could do an outgoing gift and/or monthly support.  We pray God will make it very clear to you how you are to partner with us.

This is our one opportunity to directly ask you to join us before we leave.  Over 190 individuals, families and churches have partnered with us in some way-prayer, monthly support, and/or special gifts.  We have been blessed by our relationships with these supporters and are excited to continue our relationships with them from Africa.  If you haven’t joined us, we’d love to have you! 

AND THE NEXT STEP IS….purchasing our airline tickets for the whole family!  We’ve set a date and booked the flight- October 31^st at 7 AM!  We have a little over a month to raise the last of our support.  Will you please join our support team?
